Greater Details For the Scrapbooks now
Would you like to enjoy your photos other than by watching them on a screen? You do not want to classify prints in plastic albums? Do you want a nice presentation for your travel diaries and family memories? Make a scrapbook. For the crafts die is important now.
How to make a scrapbook
The best way to archive your photos without the risk of seeing them disappear forever in a hard drive crash is to make paper prints. “Physical” archiving is indeed an excellent complement to “electronic” archiving.
- On the other hand, if you keep a few hundred photos during your vacation, plus a few hundred more to illustrate the family events of the year, you do not know what to do with all these draws.
- At the time of film photography, you had no choice but to slip them into laminated leaflets to make souvenir albums. With digital, all these photos remain wisely on your computer and have a hard time getting out most of the time.
- Yet there is a simple way to give a second life to your photos, to highlight and transmit them to future generations (on your hard drives, by cons). The photo labs have the answer, they almost all invite you to make a scrapbook.
Photo Lounge
If you have walked the aisles of the recent Salon de la Photo in Paris, you probably noticed these dozens of booths offering scrapbooks: from the simple souvenir book to the pro model ready to market, there was something for everyone.
To make a scrapbook that you like, there are some criteria to respect. We had the opportunity to discuss with the stand manager of Digital who was kind enough to answer our questions. Here’s what you need to know to make a scrapbook that you will enjoy showing.
Paper quality
The main criterion that will define the rendering of your book is the quality of the paper. Just like for a simple print, you have the choice of the grammage (which determines the handling of the paper) and the finish. Between matte and glossy, we have a preference for the matte that avoids fingerprints on photos.

Ask the lab if it offers paper samples, it’s a good way to find out for yourself. The most beautiful scrapbooks are developed on real photo paper of professional quality, it is a little more expensive but the difference is amazing.
Scrapbook format
From the landscape to the portrait, including the square and the Italian format, you have the choice. Choose the format according to the subject. If it is a particular family event (wedding for example), a classic and more timeless format is better. If it is a sports competition a more dynamic format as the square may be more suitable. Remember to choose a unique format if you plan to multiply themed books: the same format for each of your trips is more consistent.
Type of cover
Coverage is the other key element of the book. All the labs do not offer the same choice, be attentive to this criterion because the cover is what we see first when you show your scrapbook.
A soft blanket is particularly suitable for a birthday book or to offer a wedding party a souvenir. A hardcover is more classic, but more pro too.
