Client Session: 3 Ring Entertainers

Last week I did a quick and fun shoot with David and Shana of 3 Ring Entertainers, a couple of clowns (literally) located here in Ventura County. Normally I would arrange for a studio space when shooting on white seamless, but the clients didn’t need a background at all, since they would be clipping out the images to place on their website. So instead I invited them over to my garage, where I can set up a roll of seamless paper pretty quickly, along with all the lights. A two car garage can be a little cramped for this sort of thing, but it did the trick just fine.

My New Site: VenturaModels.com
Just a quick post to mention my new website, venturamodels.com. Now that my fashion/commercial side is taking off, it seemed appropriate to create a new website aimed at a different set of clients. The new site has a similar look—note the similarlity of the two logos, and layouts. But venturamodels.com is aimed at models, actors, musicians and other entertainment professionals, so that I can provide them portfolio and promotional images. With a pricing and product structure that is geared toward professionals, rather than family portraits. And most importantly, I want to serve Ventura and Santa Barbara counties with the same ‘big city’ quality, but with a ’small town’ attention to service.
Sorry, that sounds so “mission statement”. Don’t know how else to say it though. Those who have worked with me know that making my clients happy is super important.
The blog will stay here, even though it has as much fashion content as it does family-portrait and general content. I don’t need two blogs!
So please feel free to hop on over and check it out. I’m sure it will evolve rapidly over the next few months.
Model Portfolio Shoot: Tertulien at the Beach

Tertulien is a New York model, who flew out to LA last week. He was only here for the weekend, we had never met, and he didn’t know LA (can you imagine never having been to Los Angeles?!!
). So to play it ’safe’, we decided on a beach shoot. They don’t have beaches on the east coast (from what I recall), so this seemed like a perfect addition to his portfolio. We headed off to El Matador State Beach for a couple of hours before sunset. I’ve shot a few family portrait sessions here, but this was my first model portfolio shoot at this location.

Lisa Michelle and Mary Jane (model portfolio shoot)

A week ago I did a model-portfolio shoot with Lisa Michelle and Mary Jane, two models who are friends and often work together. I wanted to get them into the studio to do some ‘beauty’ shots (i.e. hair and make up rather than clothing-oriented). The plan was also to have a second set, with full-length fashion shots. But we only had an hour for hair and two hours for shooting. So what happened when the models and the stylist showed up late?

Model Shoot: Trail-Running with Laura

You first saw Laura on my blog when she helped out with the lighting seminar I gave last year. Laura and I have been talking for months about getting a shoot going, but scheduling and other things got in the way (as they always do). I had booked another model to do a fitness/trail-running shoot a couple of weeks ago. But when the other model had to cancel at the last minute, I contacted Laura on the off chance she was available. And as luck would have it, she was! So we headed off to Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura, where my wife and I often go for a lunchtime hike. Some serious hills to climb, plus a wonderful green park at the bottom of the canyon, with lots of great trees. Doesn’t look like Southern California if you frame the picture just right.
