Chloe and James – Ojai Wedding Photography by Matt Haines

Chloe and James got married at the historic Lavender Inn, located right in the middle of downtown Ojai, CA. This is the first time I’ve ever photographed a wedding with a “whale” theme, and it was pretty darn cute! It shows Chloe and James’ creativity and sense of play, which made them such a joy to work with.

No, this shot wasn’t posed! 🙂 I happened to walk by when they thought they’d snuck off to be alone.

Chloe and James came down from the Bay area to get married in her hometown of Ojai. One of her favorite places in town is Bart’s Books, a VERY unique bookstore. We decided to do some fun portraits there, to celebrate her love for the place.

Why have one wedding cake when you can have a bunch of them?

Venue: The Lavender Inn, Ojai, CA
Wedding Planner: Beth Keenan (Lavender Inn)
Caterers: Rachel Main and Judy Taylor at Main Course

Cakes: Knead Baking Co.
Officiant:  Joe Palladino
DJs: Aaron Gardner and Jon Riddell, aka “Wild Stallions”
Florist: Jodi Brandt of Curly Willow
Invitations: Lorien Stern
Assistant Photographer: Desiree Durang

Technical details: all images were shot on film. I used a Mamiya 645AF and several Nikon F100 cameras. Kodak Portra 400 and Ilford XP2, with some CineStill 500T film during the reception.

  1. Thank you so much for posting these, Matt! They are absolutely beautiful. It has been so much fun to relive our wedding day through your lens (and even see some awesome moments that we missed on the actual day). We will treasure these photos for the rest of our lives. And also thank you for being such a joy to work with throughout this process!

  2. Thanks Chloe! I had the same experience when I got married. It went by so quickly, and was such a blur, that I couldn’t remember most of what happened until I saw the photos from our wedding. Thank goodness for photography! I don’t know what people did before then. Stare at wedding cave paintings perhaps?
