Family portraits taken at a lush botanical garden near Camarillo, CA. Story below…
Hartley Botanica is a lush oasis of all things green, out in the middle of nowhere. Ok perhaps not “nowhere”, but right in the middle of ranch-and-orchard country in Somis, California. It’s not the first place you’d expect to find a beautiful garden and wedding venue. I had never been until this family of four suggested it as a location for family portraits. And ever since I scouted the place a few months back, I’ve been itching to shoot there. And I love the result!
The kids were full of energy, and didn’t have a lot of patience for sit-down ‘formal’ portraits. But hey that’s ok, it’s more fun to run around and explore anyway. (And not just for me, but for the kids too!) And the nice thing about this garden, even though it’s small, you just move five feet in any direction and you have another unique background to shoot with.
Technical notes: shot with my Mamiya 645AF and 80mm f/2.8 lens, and my Nikon F100 with 50mm f/1.4 lens. Kodak Portra 400 film throughout.
