Kerry & Douglas’ wedding (Avila Beach, CA)

What a great day! Kerry and Douglas are so very much in love, and their happiness was truly infectious. There was a feeling in the air that now, finally, everything was right in the world, and everything was as it should be. And what a treat to have so many immediate family involved in the ceremony! We had a warm, sunny California day for this April wedding, and everything was perfect. Oh and the food was rockin’! I’m getting hungry just thinking about it (although it is lunch time as I write this…).

Kerry and Douglas, I wish you and your family all the best!

This wedding was shot entirely on film. Primarily we shot on the new Kodak Portra 400 indoors, with some Tmax 3200 black and white and Tri-X, also some Fuji Pro 400H…whatever suited the conditions.

My equipment: Mamiya 645AF with 80mm f/2.8 lens, Nikon F5 and Nikon N90s.
Desirée’s equipment: Canon 35mm, Ricoh Super Ricohflex (for some detail shots)

We both had on-camera flash, which was used sparingly as the reception area had good light. I also set up some SB-20 flashes with remote triggers, to light some relatively dark corners of the reception. Those weren’t entirely necessary, just there for some subtle enhancement.

Vendors:

Venue: Avila Lighthouse Suites, Avila Beach, CA
Cake: Arroyo Grande Bakery (Arroyo Grande, CA)
Flowers: Karen’s Floral Artistry (San Diego, CA)
Deejay: Mike Taylor (San Luis Obispo, CA)
Caterer: Alphy’s (Arroyo Grande, CA)

  1. Fabulous job as usual. Wow!

I think these subtle enhancements brought in by the wirelessly triggered flashes make a whole lot of difference in some situations.

The 9th image going down by rows has a magical feel to it. The one with the groom looking at the camera and the groomsmen looking to either side… which camera and film combo was that captured in?

  2. Thanks! That was my Mamiya 645 with 80mm f/2.8 lens (shot wide open), with Fuji Pro 400H film (220 format) shot at ISO 250.

  3. Hey Matt,

When I look at these photos I couldn’t help but be amazed. You have such great skills!

I love the concepts of these shots.
